Section 9 Needlework and Sewing 

Needlecraft and Sewing will be judged according to the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Homecraft Judging Standards Prepared and Printed by the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies.

Prizes for Classes 1- 45 inclusive:

Prize Money: 1st - $5.00, 2nd - $4.00, 3rd - $3.00

RULES

1. Entries must be the work of the exhibitor.

2. No article may be shown for more that two consecutive years

3. Please use safety pins to attach tags to an article. No straight pins allowed.

4. No drawstring, ribbon or cord on child wear.

5. Any article that smells of smoke or is dirty will be disqualified.

Tips

• Judges look for neat and clean (no smoke smell), accurate dimensions, work finished properly, yarn/thread suitable for pattern used, harmonious colour scheme.

• Uniform stitches and tension, no transfer marks, background fabric smooth, no puckers.

• Cross - stitching, all stitches must go in the same direction.

• Judges look inside and out of the garment and look to see the garment is clean, neat and smoke free.

• Trims, fasteners and zippers sewn on neatly and secure.

• Accurate construction of details, such as buttonholes, belts, pockets, plackets, collar, darts and cuffs.

• Serger work should be neat and lay flat, no loose threads or ends.

• Garment hangs well, no puckers or pulled areas due to badly fitting lining or incorrect attachment of lining and interfacing.

• Hem area smooth with no puckers or hem stitching showing.
