Maple Syrup will be judged according to Agriculture & Horticulture Judging Standards for Ontario Fairs. Prepared and Printed by the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies.

All entries must be in a 250 ml curved glass Kent style bottle. Entries in Mason Jars will be disqualified.
Judges look for:
Density: - 66.5% - 67% sugar is the best maple syrup. Density is measured on the Brix scale, related to sugar content.
Below 66.0% brix - is disqualified.
Flavour: characteristic maple flavour. Free from smoke or other odours.
Colour: colour should fit colour class name
Clarity: no sediment, sugar crystals or foreign material, bubbles or greyish mold on the surface.
1. Maple Syrup, Golden - delicate taste
2. Maple Syrup, Amber - rich taste
3. Maple Syrup, Dark - robust taste
4. Maple Syrup, Very Dark - strong taste
District Competition - the winner of Amber Maple Syrup will be eligible to enter the District Competition at the OAAS District #11 Fall Meeting. If an exhibitor has won at more than one fair, the one closest to the exhibitor’s home address is the Agricultural Society from which the entry will be sent.
Provincial Competition - the winner from the District Competition is eligible to enter the Provincial Competition at the OAAS Convention the following February. The entry must consist of two clear 250ml Kent glass bottles only. Entries must be labelled on the bottom of the containers with a supplied entry number or identifier. No labels will be permitted
