Quilting will be judged according to the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Homecraft Judging Standards Prepared and Printed by the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies.
Prize Money: 1st - $25.00, 2nd - $20.00, 3rd - $15.00
1. Entries must be the work of the exhibitors. No article may be shown for more than two consecutive years.
2. Please use safety pins to attach tags to articles, no straight pins allowed.
3. No drawstring, ribbon or cord on child wear.
4. Name of the pattern/quilt and designer of the quilt is required.
Tips:
Quilt must have 3 layers (top, batting,and back), and be quilted through all layers.
Important: to determine the perimeter of a quilt, all 4 edges must be measured and totaled together.
Picots/Prairie Points and Scallops are included in the measurement of the quilt.
Quilts may have a sleeve/tabs/rings attached on the back for the purpose of hanging or displaying the quilt, it does not need to match the quilt.
General Appearance: attracts attention, (colour, design).
Neat, clean, no chalk, pencil marks or blood stains, smoke free, no rippling edges, no basting threads or knots showing on front or back, smooth and free from wrinkles.
Workmanship: single thread used, stitches uniform and evenly spaced on both front and back.
Borders: straight and even.
Binding/Picots: binding should be complementary to the quilt , must be even,neat, lie flat. Binding joins should be smooth.
Square corners mitered, if extremely narrow ¼”, mitered corners should be tacked down. All binding is padded to the edge.
Hand Quilted:
Pieced points and corners meet, block line up accurately with each other, seam allowance trimmed to ¼” (6mm).
Appliqued: raw edges of applique turned under and stitched as per style of applique, hand applique stitches small and invisible (blind hemming).
Embroidery stitches may be used for decoration only.
Machine applique’ stitches even and close together.
Machine Quilts:
tension should be adjusted so that threads from one side of the quilt do not show on the other side.
Ends of threads should be buried in quilt, machine quilting must be visible, and stitching is smooth with no puckers.
