Photography will be judged according to the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Homecraft Judging Standards Handbook Prepared and Printed by the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies.

Rules
1. Entries must be the work of the exhibitor and taken within the last year.
2. Capturing a photo of someone else’s photography work is not accepted.
3. Only one photo per category unless otherwise stated.
4. Photos must be 4” x 6”(approx. 10cm x 15cm) and mounted on stiff paper 5”x 7” (approx. 12.5 x 18cm).
5. Please attach entry tag on the lower right of mounted paper
6. All photographs must be submitted on photographic paper.
7. Commercial mattes not acceptable.
8. Entries submitted by a professional photographer will not be accepted.
The photography class is open to anyone except those who derive more than 25% of their income from photography.
9. No “Digitally Enhanced”. Must be untouched from the original shot taken.
“Digitally Enhanced”: anything done to the original image shot the regular way through a regular camera (film or digital)(e.g. cropping, colour changes, red-eye removal, lightening or darkening, contrast changing, etc).
Prize Money for Classes: 1st- $5.00, 2nd - $4.00, 3rd - $3.00
Tips: Judges look for
Composition : proper exposure focus, sharpness, detail, depth of field, brightness and contrast, camera angle/choice of viewpoints, balance, placement of primary and secondary subjects, follow the “rules of thirds” (means: a composition guideline that places your subject in the left or right of an image leaving the other two thirds more open).
Impact & Creativity
Background, simple, does it catch your attention?
Subject matter - does it tell a story, convey emotion?
Originality, appropriateness to theme.
Lighting: effective use of light as it relates to subject, colour balance - effective use of colours and tones.
Presentation: does the size and colour of mounting or matting meet the requirements of the Fair Book.
Quality of printing - prints should not be streaked or blemished.

1. “Black and White”- 1 Photo
2. “In Winter’s Grip”- unique ice or snow formations, 1 photo
3. “Moments in Time”- same scene, three seasons, 3 photos. Please mount on rigid board not more than 11”x 14” in size.
4. “Sunrise or Sunset”- 1 photo
5. “Colours of Almaguin”- showing our beautiful fall colours 1 photo
6. “Dramatic Sky”- weather activity, 1 photo
7. “Misty Morning”- misty or foggy scene either Winter or Summer 1 photo
8. “Waterways”- Waterfalls or Rapids or Dams 1 photo
9. “Happy Face”- any smile, whether on a person or an animal 1 photo
10. “Hair-Hair Everywhere"- creative facial hair 1 photo
11. “Spring Babies”- baby animals or birds 1 photo
12. “Picture Perfect!”- a close up of a flower or insect, or flower with an insect 1 photo
13. “Barnyard Pals”- any farm animal with another animal 1 photo
14. “Holy Cow”- featuring one or more cows 1 photo
15. “Working on the Farm”- showing any farm work in progress, named 1 photo
16. “Work in Progress”-creating a fair entry 1 photo
17. “Kids do the Darndest Things!” 1 photo
18. “Family Fun at our Fair” 1 photo
19. “Funny Picture”- with caption 1 photo
